AI Safety Local Group Starter Guide

By Nico Hillbrand (founder of AI Safety Aachen). Jan 2026

Starting a local group is one of the best ways to multiply your impact while developing valuable community-building and operations skills.

We'll support you with:

  • Access to databases of people in your city interested in AI Safety

  • A ready-to-use website template

  • Meetup formats and templates

  • One-on-one mentoring

  • Outreach templates

  • Best practices and advice from experienced organizers

What the process looks like:

  1. Get paired with a mentor to guide you through the founding process

  2. Create a WhatsApp/Slack/Signal group

  3. Set up your website

  4. Do initial outreach in your area

  5. Run your first meetup

  6. Consider running an introductory course and later on coworking sessions and project based fellowships

This can be done with just a few hours per week, and we'll support you throughout. Reach out if you’re interested!
