FAQ

Where does the fellowship take place?

The technical track is in Tübingen, in cooperation with the ELLIS Institute Tübingen. The governance track is in Berlin, in cooperation with the Hertie School Centre for Digital Governance.

When will I hear back?

We’ll let you know by the end of 2026.

Who can apply?

Anyone based in Germany with a strong background in a relevant field (e.g. computer science, maths, law, policy) who wants to work on reducing risks from advanced AI. You need to be able to be in either Berlin or Tübingen for the full programme.

What does “fully funded” cover?

A monthly stipend of €3,000, plus compute for technical projects and support for expenses on governance projects. There are no fees.

Can I apply to both tracks?

Yes. Just indicate your preferred track in your application. We’ll consider you for both and may suggest the one that fits best.

What will I work on?

A research project led by a mentor, in either:

  • the technical track in Tübingen, or
  • the governance track in Berlin.

Mentors propose projects. If you are accepted into the fellowship, you’ll be matched to one based on your interests and skill set.
